Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This 45-minute documentary was produced on behalf of the Loyalist forces of the Spanish Civil War. Blame for the recent unpleasantnass is placed firmly on the shoulders of fascist dictator Francisco Franco, and his alleged Axis cronies Hitler and Mussolini. The newsreel footage is raw and unexpurgated, offering grim closeups of wartime atrocities that must have had a profound effect upon audiences of the late 1930s. The title refers to the efforts made by certain American organizations to provide manpower, weaponry and medical care to the beleagured Loyalists. The English-language narration was provided by David Wolff, while the musical score was based on authentic Spanish folk songs.
