Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The 90-minute TV documentary Rediscovering George Washington endeavors to place the founding father in a modern context by concentrating on three essential traits: Washington's skills as a soldier, his personal charisma, and his political savvy. In one scene, the film's writer/host, historian Richard Brookheiser, presides over a discussion at the Army War College about the strategy of the Whiskey Rebellion. In another scene, five high school baseball pitchers attempt to re-create Washington's mythical feat of tossing a dollar across the Potomac. And in still another segment, Brookheiser asks questions about Washington at a glitzy Hollywood party attended by scores of self-proclaimed political activists. Presented in the HDTV format, Rediscovering George Washington originally aired July 4, 2002, on PBS.
