Red Tanks (1942)

Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This Soviet propaganda film was made before the 1941 Nazi invasion, rendering some of its pleas for "preparedness" a tad anachronistic. Put simply, the story is a tribute to the newly developed 50-ton KV tank, which was considered the last word in land warfare at the time. The tanks are shown in action, successfully overcoming every obstacle placed in their path. Once the training session is over, the film concentrates on a fictional plotline concerning a courageous tank crew led by Lieutenant Loginov (A. Kulakov). Unlike other flag-waving Russian productions of the era, Red Tanks has the advantage of brevity, zipping along at a mere 64 minutes.
