Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The original Ramayana is an Indian literary and religious work of stunning length and equally stunning antiquity. One thread that runs through it concerns a battle between two closely related clans with cosmic connections. In this India/Japan co-production, animators have chosen to focus on the battle action to the exclusion of almost any story content. Even this might yield a noteworthy film if the animation were of higher quality; as it is, this uninspired condensation of the great classic is guaranteed to offend all but the most undiscriminating.
