Synopsis by Mark Deming

Three stories of love, treachery and redemption come together in the visitors' center of a prison in this drama from France. Laure (Pauline Etienne) is an angry and rebellious sixteen-year-old who has fallen in love with Alexander (Vincent Rottiers), a squatter with a hatred of authority. When Alexander ends up in prison after getting in a fight with a police officer, Laure wants to visit him, but discovers those under eighteen can only see inmates while accompanied by an adult. Since her parents don't care for Alexander, Laure talks Antoine (Julien Lucas), a doctor, into tagging along with her. Pierre (Marc Barbe) is a white-collar criminal whose business partner was recently sentenced to twenty-five years behind bars. When Pierre meets Stephane (Reda Kateb), a nebbishy messenger boy, he's amazed that Stephane is the spitting image of his incarcerated friend, and offers the messenger a large amount of money in exchange for taking the convict's place as part of an escape plot. And Zorah (Farida Rahouadj) is a woman from Algeria still coming to terms with the death of her son. Zorah's son is believed to have been killed by Francois, currently serving time, and she wants to confront him about the murder. In order to set up a meeting with Francois, Zorah persuades his sister Celine (Delphine Chuillot) to help her, but Zorah learns that the events that led to her son's death were not as she imagined. Qu'un Seul Tienne, Les Autres Suivront (aka Silent Voices) was the first feature film from director Lea Fehner.
