Emmett (Peter Paige) and Ted (Scott Lowell) are in a drugstore when Ted spots a guy he once had sex with. Then they overhear the man discussing his HIV medication with the pharmacist, sending Ted into a panic. The next day, Emmett and Ted go to get tested. Debbie (Sharon Gless) gives Michael (Hal Sparks) a hard time over his breakup with David (Chris Potter). She then goes to visit Brian (Gale Harold), telling him, "You've ruined my kid's life." Brian says he'll make it up by throwing a surprise birthday party for Michael's upcoming 30th birthday. He even invites David. Ted gets good news from the doctor's office, but Emmett gets a message telling him to come to the office first thing Monday, leaving him fearing the worst. At Michael's "surprise" birthday party, David's gift of an expensive watch can't compete with Brian having "Captain Astro" himself show up with a rare and valuable comic book for Michael. Ted chastises Brian, and tells him to let Michael go, and Brian petulantly tells Ted that everyone know he's in love with Michael. Emmett makes a pact with God, promising to give up sex with men in exchange for being HIV negative. The biggest surprise of the night comes when Tracy (Lindsey Connell) shows up at the party, and Brian outs Michael to her, sending a shocked and heartbroken Michael back into the arms of David.
