Synopsis by Mark Deming
A troubled man discovers that the home he once knew is a thing of the past in this dark drama from first-time director Jovan Arsenic. Marco (Ivan Dordevic) is a Serbian soldier who returns home after an emotionally shattering experience in the battlefield that led to his commitment to a metal hospital. Marco is eager to be back, but he soon discovers things are hardly what they once were; his mother has been moved away, his former girlfriend now supports herself as a prostitute, and most of the townspeople make no secret of the fact that they would prefer it if he went away. Povratnik was screened as part of the 2004 Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
