Synopsis by Sarah Ing

Pierre Bonnard experienced a revival in popularity with the modern discovery of his work. His paintings are now considered some of the more sophisticated and masterful of the 20th century. Portrait of an Artist: Pierre Bonnard -- In Search of Pure Color explores the creations of this post-impressionist. Bonnard spent his early career experimenting with color and composition. With a group of like-minded painters, Bonnard formed the Nabis. Their interest was in evoking emotions through art, and they accomplished this with flattened forms and strong boundaries. In his later life, Bonnard embraced a more personal style inspired by his immediate surroundings. His warm renderings began the school of intimism. Bonnard is regarded as one of the main influences on the modern art movement.
