Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

In a tautly-wound drama , Czech director Jiri Krejcik tells a wartime tale of deception and intrigue in a family split down the middle by opposite political viewpoints. During the war, one of the sons in the family was a Nazi sympathizer and collaborator, while the daughter had an affair with a German major. Now the Russian army is approaching the small town in which the family lives and it is apparent that they will soon be in control. Before they arrive, the family decides to protect their other son by hiding him away at home. He is a resistance fighter and their decision to shelter him runs into opposition from the Nazi sibling -- but he relents in the end. Trouble comes into the picture when the local priest is ordered by the Germans to hand over the resistance fighter, or else.
