Set in the 1920s in Kazakhstan, this scenic action film offers great views of desert landscapes and mountains as the Red Army fights rebels in remote Central Asia. For various reasons, some Kazakhstanis do not want to join the USSR. The rebel "bandits" are led by the elusive Kudre who gives the Russian army, and especially their Commander Hamit, a rough time. As they battle away in this so-called "Eastern," the anti-Soviet forces are the bad guys. Everyone but the "outlaws" wanted to join the Soviet Union.
