Synopsis by Sarah Welsh
Pleasing God: Loving Krishna, the third film in an ethnographic trilogy on Hindu practice, focuses on the West Bengal town of Vishnapur. In a place with a complex social past, where rural and urban ways of life come together, the filmmakers examine the life, art, and ritual devotion of Krishna worshippers -- including the elaborate public Chariot Journey celebration and private Birthday Festivals. All three Pleasing God films were produced by the Film Study Center at Harvard University.
