Synopsis by Janiss Garza

When their partner dies, a pair of old seamen, Shad Gould (character actor extraordinaire Theodore Roberts) and Zoeth Hamilton (James Neill), adopt his daughter, Mary (played as a young woman by Vivian Martin). Gould and Hamilton now run a general store and they decide to send Mary to boarding school. They tell her the tuition comes from money her father left her, but in reality, they are paying from their own meager resources. While at school Mary meets Crawford Smith (Harrison Ford), whose father (Bert Hadley), years before, had eloped with Mary's mother. Mary finds out that her two adopted fathers have nearly broken themselves paying for her education, so she goes home to put their business in order. Crawford follows, but Mary turns him away because she thinks Gould and Hamilton wouldn't approve of him. Crawford, however, has a letter from his father -- now dead -- which begs forgiveness from the two old men. It also proves that Mary and Crawford are in no way related -- so they are free to have their romance.
