Synopsis by Karen Solomon

From WGBH Boston and the BBC comes this detailed video series on the struggle for human rights in the last century. In this selection, archival footage and exclusive interviews with witnesses from India and throughout Africa detail how these two continents struggled for independence from Imperialist British rule. Learn how leaders like Mohandas K. Gandhi in India, Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana, and the Mau Mau in Kenya led the path toward social resistance and nationwide reform. Viewers will also learn of the political turbulence that followed the end of British rule, and gain understanding of the struggles for power and freedom that still affect these countries today. Narrator Alfre Woodard gives voice to this educational series.
