This tragedy, based on a true story, depicts the attempt of 40 men to illegally emigrate to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic. The whole trouble starts when three friends working in a bakery decide that they can no longer stay in their impoverished and economically unstable country. One of the three tries to emigrate legally, but he cannot obtain a visa. In desperation, they decide to pay smugglers and join 40 other men who are snuck past a squadron of guards onto a ship about ready to sail for America. Later, as the men huddle below deck, authorities board the ship and search it. The men are sent back to meet their fates.
