Synopsis by Cara Saposnik

The blank spaces of the urban landscape are the canvas for muralist Richard Hass. Painting the Town is a visual feast of a documentary. Filmmaker Amalie R. Rothschild exuberantly introduces the witty work of an architectural artist whose murals have caused double takes from Munich to Phoenix. Hass follows a tradition dating back to the ancient Greeks to create stairs, an entranceway, and a cast-iron facade where a blank wall used to be. Interviews with experts, passers-by, and the artist himself help explore how the geometry of a city is transformed by a delightful art form.
