Despite the fact that black Americans account for a mere thirteen percent of the United States' population, yet over fifty percent of new HIV infections, is a true wake-up call that something needs to be done before these numbers get any more dire. Black women alone are twenty three times more likely to be diagnosed with AIDS than white women, with nearly seventy percent of newly diagnosed HIV women n the United States being of African-American descent. In this national news television network documentary, interviews with AIDS activists, doctors, and others who have dedicated their lives to educating the public and eradicating this disease speak out against the leaders who have failed to properly educate the population, and as a result allowed the epidemic to spiral dangerously out of control. By speaking with experts about these frightening numbers, Terry Morgan discovers that the disproportionate number of black men in prison may be a key factor in solving the mystery. The AIDS infection rates in prison are nearly five times higher than in the general population, and while many black men go in uninfected, they often emerge carrying the HIV virus without even knowing it. These facts, coupled with the revelations that all sexually transmitted diseases are more frequent among African Americans and black men are more than twice as likely than white men to have multiple sexual partners at the same time, offer a revelatory explanation of why heterosexual transmission of AIDS among the black population is so common.
