Synopsis by Brian Whitener

Originally a Japanese television show, the lovable bungler Tora spawned an entire series of movies as well. All of the Tora films have a similar plot: Tora, a peddler/traveling salesman, returns home from a trip, has a disagreement with his family, and returns to the road. In Foster Daddy, Tora, while out traveling, Tora sees the daughter of an old friend. She wants to get out of her small town and move to the city, so Tora takes her to Tokyo and sets her up at a job. Sumire is grateful and, as part of her plan to better herself, begins to attend night school. One night her old boyfriend shows. Against Tora's wishes, the two decide to get married. Tora, disappointed that Sumire is going to give up her education for a man he doesn't approve of, leaves on a business trip. Tora eventually reconciles himself to their decision and sends a postcard to their wedding.
