Synopsis by Mark Deming
A handful of Slovaks struggle to maintain a sense of cultural identity in world where the global village has become increasingly homogenized in a documentary from filmmaker Marko Skop. Ine Svety (aka Other Worlds) ponders the effects of globalization by looking into the lives of six people who call Eastern Slovakia, ranging from a brewer who finds his local beer has a hard time competing with better known imports and a Jewish woman looking for her roots in a town where tradition has fallen by the wayside to a former circus muscleman who is trying to launch a new career as a rap artist. Other Worlds won the audience award at the 2006 Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
