Synopsis by Jonathan Crow

Veteran director Nobuhiko Obayashi spins this character study about a middle-aged journalist looking to make her big break. After working the same beat on the "Women's page", Yumiko (Sayuri Yoshinaga) gets promoted to editorials. On her first meeting with her editor, she proposes an opinion piece about a former Prime Minister's stance against abortion. Her command of facts and figures impresses her boss and she gets the job. Later, a right-wing religious group gets wind of her proposed article and pressures to have her dropped from the project. Not being one to simply role over, she uses her web of connections -- from her married lover (Masahiko Tsugawa) to her aging screen-diva aunt (Yumeiji Tsukioka) to a yakuza don (Tadao Takashima). Meanwhile, a fellow reporter (Rentaro Mikami) with a good sense for news, but a bad sense for grammar, develops a crush on Yumiko.
