Synopsis by Janiss Garza

The "one too many" referred to in the title could mean the amount of drinks had by Plump (Oliver Hardy) the night before, but it's more likely to mean the number of babies his pal, Runt (Billy Ruge), finds for him. The situation is one seen in many comic shorts of the 1910s and 1920s. Plump is happily living the bachelor's life on his uncle's money. The only problem is the uncle believes that he has a wife and baby, and now he's coming to visit the happy family. A hungover Plump is forced to come up with a wife and kid in a hurry, and asks Runt to help. Along with numerous babies, Runt finds several Mrs. Plumps. The babies all wind up vanishing and Runt has to put on baby clothes and play the part himself. The uncle arrives, as do three separate women, each named Mrs. Plump, and the lie is discovered. But Plump wins out after all; one of the women happens to be the uncle's former girlfriend, and the old guy is blackmailed into keeping Plump in the money.
