Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This TV adaptation of Alexander Solzhenitsyn's semi-autobiographical novel stars Jason Robards Jr. in the title role. Ivan is a prisoner in a Siberian gulag, one of a group of inmates who've been promised transfer to warmer quarters if they can top the camp's previous work record within a single day. But sadistic Lieutenant Volkovoi (Albert Paulsen) hopes to sabotage the prisoners' plans. A later film version of the Solzhenitsyn book was filmed in 1971 with Tom Courtney. The 60-minute Jason Robards version of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich was originally telecast November 8, 1963, on NBC's The Bob Hope Chrysler Theatre.
