Synopsis by Hal Erickson

One of the most frequently dramatized of Charles Dickens' novels, Oliver Twist has been transformed into a British TV miniseries on at least three different occasions. The first of these was telecast by the BBC from January 7 to April 1, 1962. Bruce Prochnik starred as beleagured orphan Oliver Twist, who crossed paths with master thief Fagin (Max Adrian), cheeky young cutpurse the Artful Dodger (Melvyn Hayes), the pathetic Nancy Sykes (Carmel McSharry), and the murderous Bill Sykes (Peter Vaughan) before stumbling upon his true station in life. Oliver Twist was faithfully delineated over 13 25-minute episodes.
