Synopsis by Mark Deming

A lonely man and a woman who wants a family are brought together by fate in this drama from Peru. Clemente (Bruno Odar) is a man who is best known to those around him as the son of the local pawnbroker, even though Clemente is in his mid-forties and his father has been dead for years. Clemente has accomplished little in his life; he's a small-time loan shark who doesn't have the courage to chase down clients who don't pay; he's never been married and has very few friends. One evening, Clemente comes home to discover that someone has left him an unexpected gift -- a baby girl, no more than a few months old. As Clemente tries to track down the parents, he's forced to look after the baby himself; needing some help and advice, Clemente turns to Sofia (Gabriela Velásquez), a neighbor who has always wanted a child of her own. Sofia takes care of the baby when not busy with the religious festival taking place in town, and the responsibilities of temporary parenthood have a profound effect on both Sofia and Clemente. Octubre (aka October) was the first feature film from the sibling writing and directing team of Daniel Vega and Diego Vega.
