Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The Finnish Nuoruss Sumussa was given fitful release outside Scandanavia as Lost Youngsters. The story is set during WW2, a particularly tumultuous period for Finland, which briefly chafed under Soviet rule. A group of kids do what they can to survive the war, eventually turning to crime. The moralistic finale is well integrated with the realistic plot complications which preceded it. At 112 minutes, Nuoruss Sumussa was typical of Finnish feature films, which tended to be overlong; it was reportedly later trimmed to suit the tastes of non-Finnish filmgoers.
