Synopsis by Sarah Ing

Every winter, the earth's largest mammals head south, winding their way down the California coast and into Mexico. Nova follows this necessary path while on Nova: Whale Watch. The North American Grey Whale is the focus of much attention due to its enormous size and likeability. In Mexico, the whale is a symbol of environmental protection, with politicians jockeying to save its precious waters. Beginning in the Bering Seas, the grey whale travels 5,000 miles every year to Baja California. They attract tons of tourists who just want a glimpse of these giant swimmers. Once there, the grey whales begin the breeding process. Nova offers a rare glimpse into the mating habits of these ancient mammals.
