Synopsis by Nathan Southern

As originally screened on the Boston PBS affiliate WGBH, the archaeologically-tinged documentary special NOVA: Bone Diggers travels back in time millions of years to the Ice Age, when massive, deadly marsupials roamed the continent of Australia. In an era whose denizens included 8-foot-tall kangaroos and 3-feet-in-diameter reptiles, the most fearsome creature of all was the Thylacoleo - a carnivorous marsupial lion. Eventually, for mysterious and unknown reasons, the entire population of this creature died off. Bone Diggers joins a group of thrill-seeking archeologists who undertake a courageous foray into an Australasian cave, in search of a rare skeleton of the Thylacoleo and answers to their queries about the reasons for its extinction.
