Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
Archival film footage, vintage photographs, and candid interviews offer a detailed look at the experiences of the only all-female WWII fighter pilot regiment in writer/director Gunilla Bresky's lovingly crafted documentary. From 1942 to 1945, the 588th Night Bomber Regiment rose through the ranks to become the most decorated unit in the Soviet Air Force. Their planes constructed of wood that was prone to ignite the moment it was hit, the members of the 588th frequently flew more missions than their male counterparts, and were ultimately dubbed "Night Witches" by the Nazis.
