Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This relentlessly "hip" cooking show began life in England over Channel 4 in 1999. The star, Nigella Lawson, was the daughter of Nigel Lawson, former Chancellor of the Exchequer. Rising to fame with her 1998 book How to Eat: The Pleasures and Principles of Good Food, Nigella (aka "the It Girl") espoused a culinary philosophy of achieving "maximum pleasure through minimum effort." The fact that Nigella made her kitchen savvy look easy when it really wasn't added to her charm and appeal. In America, Nigella Bites simultaneously debuted over two cable networks, Style and E!, on January 26, 2002.
