Though best known for her early appearances with the Velvet Underground (she sang three songs on their debut album, recorded in 1966), Nico (born Christa Paffgen) had a long and fascinating career in music, and was active in the arts up until her untimely death in 1988. Nico: All Tomorrow's Parties is drawn from video recordings of two performances staged in Manchester, England, which became her adopted home in the '80s; one was shot at the Library Theater in 1983, while the other was shot a year or two earlier, though the exact date and venue are unknown. In both performances, Nico sings material from her tenure with the Velvet Underground and her later solo albums; her road band joins her for both shows, though many of the most compelling numbers feature just Nico and her harmonium. Songs include "Femme Fatale," "All Tomorrow's Parties," "Janitor of Lunacy," "My Heart Is Empty," "Frozen Warnings," and her signature cover of the Doors' "The End"."
