Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Ni Liv (Nine Lives) was adapted by director Arne Skouen from the novel by David Howarth. Set during WW II, the film charts the adventures of Jan Baalsrud (Jack Fjeldstad), the sole survivor of a Norwegian commando unit. Trapped behind enemy lines, the hero tries to reach the safety of neutral Sweden. Despite the ongoing threat of execution -- not to mention the devastating deadliness of the Norwegian winter -- Baalsrud is aided and abetted by several sympathetic Norwegian patriots. The finale finds Baalsrud somewhere in Lapland, where salvation arrives in a most unexpected fashion. Ni Liv was one of the hits of the 1958 Cannes Film Festival.
