This color documentary finds New York City-mayor John Lindsay being driven East side, West side and all around the town by a fictitious cab driver (Eli Wallach). The cultural diversity of the city is illustrated in religious ceremonies, art galleries, city parks and even the subway system. From St. Patrick's Cathedral to a Harlem Baptist revival choir and Jewish synagogues, the city is host to a myriad of religious faiths. Financed by the New York Times, Lindsay and Wallach engage in delightful observations of the city, even commenting on the sleazy exterior of a degenerating Times Square. The film, although a blatant, self-serving blast of tourist-come-hither propaganda, is as vibrant and entertaining as the city itself.
