The battle with the last angel and being forced to destroy Unit 03 and mortally injure Toji prove to be too much for Shinji and he snaps. He quite NERV once again, but as he prepares to depart Tokyo-3, another Angel attacks, easily defeating the other Evas. Torn about his sense of duty, Shinji has an unexpected conversation with Toji that helps him make his final decision.
