Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Filmed in the Philippines and initially released in Japan, Nenita Unit is the story of the "Huks" -- the communist Hukbalhap guerillas who tried to undermine Filipino democracy. The story focuses on Anita Linda, who was captured by the Huks in childhood and raised to be a guerilla fighter with the Nenita Unit. Her mentor is Patricia Plata, who hopes that one day Anita will take her place. But Anita is disillusioned when the Huks raid and wipe out her home village. Re-creating a controversial chapter in Philippine history in terms of black and white, Nenita Unit may not be 100% accurate, but it serves its propagandist purpose.
