Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Devon Werkheiser headed the cast of this teen-oriented Nickelodeon comedy series as Ned Bigby, who in the first season had just entered the sixth grade at James K. Polk Middle School. To help his peers navigate through a hostile world of snooty girls, nasty bullies and dictatorial teachers, Ned put together a "survival guide", with each of the series' episodes representing a chapter in that guide. Our hero's best friends and co-conspirators were Cookie (Dan Curtis Lee), a male computer geek, and Moze (Lindsey Shaw), one of the few girls whom Ned could tolerate for more than five minutes at a time. Other students included tough-guy Billy "Bully" Loomer (Kyle Swann), who had a crush on Moze; Bully's sidekick, logicially named Crony (Teo Oliveras); supersmart Suzie (Christian Serratos), Moze's great rival and the object of Ned's hopeless ardor; Martin (Tylor Chase), the brainiest kid in school; Claire (Brooke Marie Bridges), an aspiring lawyer and full-time arbitrator; basketball jock Seth (Alex Black); and the aptly yclept Coconut Head (Rob Pinkston). Of faculty members, the most memorable were funky "life science" teacher Mr. Monroe (JM J. Bullock), brusque PE teacher Ms. Dirga (Kim Sava), and accident-prone shop instructor Mr. Chopsaw (Dave Florek). Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide (its title usually shortened to the first two words) first aired on September 12, 2004.
