Synopsis by Alice Day

The evolution of the garden over 3,000 years is the subject of this PBS series, hosted by historian William Howard Adam. He visits sites throughout the world that are examples of gardening design at their most opulent, as in the case of royal parks. Simpler gardens that adhere to more natural lines are also examined in Asian settings and the vegetable plots of the early American settlers. Nature Perfected, the Story of the Garden: The Machine and the Garden explores the changes brought about when the lawn mower appeared, and the idea of gardens became popular with the masses.
