Synopsis by Alice Day
In this 12-part series, historian William Howard Adam offers a tour of some of the most spectacular early gardens of the world, citing differences in the designs from culture to culture. Filmed on-location, viewers can contrast the works of Asian garden designers with the accomplishments of engineers at Versailles, whose tasks included diverting a river. Some gardens emphasized a natural approach, while others depended on manmade decorations for their statements. Nature Perfected, the Story of the Garden: Glory and Grandeur examines the geometric precision of the French royal gardens.
