Synopsis by Alice Day

The practical nature of the early colonists did not allow for decorative aspects in their gardens, which were cultivated only for purposes of producing food and plants for healing. Developments occurred under the influence of the Quakers, who nourished a love of natural things, finding joy in the simple pleasures of the garden. Nature Perfected, the Story of the Garden: Moving On, hosted by historian William Howard Adam, looks at the gardens of Colonial Williamsburg, the restoration of a colonial city. Adam also visits plantation gardens of the deep South.
