Synopsis by Alice Day

Historian William Howard Adam guides viewers through a tour of internationally acclaimed gardens in this series from PBS. Nature Perfected, the Story of the Garden: The Landscaping of England offers a look at the influence of Italy on the gardens of 16th century England, with on-site filming of the natural elements characteristic of Italian landscapes. Manmade structures such as fountains, popular features of English gardens, gave way to streams and imitations of the rolling hills of Italy. Unfenced expanses of greenery became the norm, as garden designers removed artificial obstacles.
