Synopsis by Alice Day

This program seeks to determine why the dog has been chosen as the most popular pet. In Nature: Man's Best Friend, the wide variety of dogs, big and small, is depicted, from tribal dogs in Kenya to the overly fed and groomed pooches of the U.S. The program discusses the adaptability of dogs to humans, and the traits that make them so appealing. Dogs were originally bred for useful purposes, such as hunting, where the dog's keen eyesight and hearing were invaluable to their masters. Others have been utilized as working animals, such as the sheepdogs.
