This intimate documentary follows professor Lawrence Shapiro and his group of graduate students as they work in the lab in pursuit of their PhDs, a chance for publication and, most of all, inspiration. As the students all compete to be the first to understand how the AMPK protein burns fat, their research comes to include such odd details as pickles and the music of The Flaming Lips.
