This program in the series profiles the Native American artist Rudolph Carl Gorman, a Navajo painter and lithographer who was born in Chinle, AZ, in 1931. Colorful both stylistically and personally, Gorman has been described by the New York Times as "the Picasso of American Indian artists." Highlights of this video include footage of Gorman at work his studio, discussing his work and influences. Famous enough (for more than 15 minutes) that Andy Warhol did a portrait of him, Gorman specializes in portraits of Navajo women. He works from live models and has been influenced by his studies in Mexico City of such artists as Diego Rivera and lithographer Jose Sanchez.
