Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

The lives, loves and concerns of a group of high-school students living in an apartment block in Tblisi are the focus of this 1956 black and white Soviet film. As they discuss their plans for the future, some say they want to go on to college, others want to go directly to work. One ne'er do well, the son of a well-regarded singer, has no plans: he only wants to drink and lounge around. The main character, Dato, is played by Georgi Shengelaya, son of the famous Georgian director Nikolai Shengelaya. Georgi went on to become a well-regarded director in his own right, making such notable and award-winning films as Journey of a Young Composer and Pirosmani. In the story, Dato wrongly believes that the girl he is in love with has given her heart to someone else.
