Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The poignant events of his life were chronicled in the popular stage play Shadowlands (and film adaptation of the same title), his Narnia books carry an imposing reputation, and his theological treatises (The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity) have earned the right to be called classics of Christian literature. But Narnia and Beyond: Chronicles of C.S. Lewis marks one of the first film documentaries to provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse of this author's world. The film follows Lewis' journey from a boyhood in northern Ireland to his Oxford University professorship. It also explores Lewis' conversion from dogmatic atheism to Christianity, his creation of the Narnia works, the contrast between his vivid fantasy life and the day-to-day matter-of-factness of his British world, and his contributions to the British and global literary canon -- highlighting the joys, disappointments, triumphs and struggles he encountered along his route.
