Mystery abounds in chapter one of The Mystery Trooper. Every time Helen Holt (Blanche Mehaffey) and her brother Billy (Buzz Barton) fall short of funds, gold nuggets appear as if out of nowhere. Not only that but a Mystery Trooper plays the organ at the local general store and a phantom horse, White Cloud, is believed be the key to a hidden Indian mine. In possession of one half of a map to the mine and in search of the other, Jack Logan (Robert Frazer) arrives in Ghost City sharply trailed by Mack (Charles King), the emissary of criminal Monk Masterson. Mack, who is in league with local thug Jean Gregg (Al Ferguson), briefly has Jack at a disadvantage but with a bit of help from the Mystery Trooper our hero is soon ready and able to save Helen from being attacked. During the ensuing fight, however, Jack is pushed down a well. Original chapter title: "The Trap of Terror."
