Synopsis by Hal Erickson

A.E.W. Mason's frequently filmed mystery melodrama At the Villa Rose made its talkie debut as the French production Mystery of the Pink Villa. Simone Vaudry stars as a phony fortune teller who finds herself the innocent dupe of a gang of murderous thieves. Rendered helpless, Vaudry is a terrified witness as a wealthy woman is killed and her jewels stolen. With all evidence pointing to Vaudry as the killer, she has no choice but to escape to the Continent, where she is doggedly pursued by dedicated police inspector Hanaud (Leon Mathot) Gradually, Hanaud comes to believe in the girl's innocence and helps her trap the real perpetrators. An English-language talkie version of At the Villa Rose appeared at the end of 1930, with Austin Trevor as the intrepid Hanaud.
