Synopsis by Mark Deming

Sergei Grinkov and Ekaterina Gordeeva met when they were two teenagers in Moscow who were studying skating. They soon became partners on the ice, eventually winning four World Championships and gold medals in the 1988 and 1994 Olympic pairs skating competitions. It wasn't long before they were partners off the ice as well; they fell in love, married, and had a daughter. They had a seemingly perfect relationship until heart failure took Sergei's life at the age of 28. This documentary (produced with Ekaterina Gordeeva's participation) looks at their lives together, as athletes and as husband and wife, featuring interviews with their friends Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, and Viktor Petrenko.
