This film concerns Marie Helmar (Claire Whitney), who grows up in pre-war Austria. She becomes a cabaret singer and is seduced by an officer in the Austrian Army. As a result, she leaves the country to live with relatives in France. She falls in love with her cousin, and they plan to marry. The night before the wedding, she sends him a letter revealing her past. The letter, however, is supposedly never delivered. The war begins, and Marie discovers that her seducer is working at her relatives' home as a butler. He is, in fact, a spy and threatens to reveal her secret unless she helps him gain information. She refuses, and when he tries to come in her room to murder her, she kills him. Her husband enters the room just as she has fired the shot, and she confesses to her past. He, in turn, explains that he did read the letter but said nothing so as not to cloud their happiness.
