Clark Terry was an important fixture in Count Basie's bands before leaving to join Duke Ellington in the '50s. He played swing as well as bop, and his versatility kept him in great demand. His "mumbling scat singing" evolved during his appearances on The Tonight Show, and he began concentrating on the flugelhorn. In Montreux Jazz Festival, Vol. 7, Terry and Count Basie perform a program of jazz that includes the songs "Pennies From Heaven," "Montreux Blues I," "Minor Blues," "Billie's Bounce," and "Lester Leaps In."
