This film is part of a series that celebrates the artist community of Montparnasse in Paris, from the 1890s through World War II. Montparnasse drew artists, writers, and musicians from all over the world to its vibrant café society. Among the artists who came there was Man Ray. The visionary Man Ray came to Paris with his friend Marcel Duchamp and became a proponent of the surrealist and Dada movements. Creating works on canvas, sculpture, and photography, Man Ray's intent was to shock the viewer into a new way of seeing. The film contains a 1961 interview with the artist talking about his life in Montparnasse and his affiliation with Salvador Dali and Max Ernst.
