In the grand tradition of anime based on video games, Monster Rancher is inspired by the Temco game about raising and training various monsters for a fighting competition. Genki, a young boy, is actually playing the CD-ROM game of Monster Rancher when he is sucked inside its world, where he raises and cares for monster friends in real life. Of course, his adventures don't end thereb as he eventually needs to enlist the help of his monsters to defeat the sinister forces threatening to disrupt the happy world of Monster Rancher.
